Lucky to have Dhoni and Kohli in team: Jadhav

Hyderabad: Man of the match Kedar Jadhav said the Indian team is lucky to have players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and skipper Virat Kohli.

“Both of them are world class. We are lucky to have both of them. They have won World Cups. We keep learning from them how to prepare for a match. If the team is doing well, credit goes to Kohli and Dhoni,’’ said the 33-year-old after fashioning India to victory along with Dhoni against Australia here on Saturday.

Speaking on the victory, Jadhav said every victory is valuable. “It tells you how the team is progressing. As a team, we believe in process.’’

The middle order batsman said he is enjoying his role as finisher of the game. “It is good to be consistent. I’m enjoying my time in the team. The team management has confidence in me. I have been doing the role of finisher in the last one-and half year. The team looks at me as a finisher.’’

The diminutive batsman said he learnt a lot about the game from Dhoni. “I can’t put in words. I feel confident whenever he is at other end. He gets the best out of a player. That is the reason every player looks up to him.’’

On his two knocks – in Melbourne and here – Jadhav pointed out it was difficult to bat in MCG as he had to adjust before getting into the groove. I’m lucky to have Kohli and Dhoni at the other ends. We can learn a lot.’’

Jadhav said both he and Dhoni made conscious decision not to take risks till the 25th over. “Since Zampa was bowling well, we had to give respect to him and target other bowlers. Mahi and I played to a plan. We didn’t want to give away the wicket. We knew Zampa was the bowler who could take wickets. As long as Mahi was there, the pressure was on the Aussies and I also could play my natural game.’’

He also credited the bowlers to restrict Australia to a modest total of 236. “It was an average score. The game was won then only as another 30 runs would have been difficult.’’

On his bowling, Jadhav said that he did not believe that he was a full-time bowler. “One needs to take a lot of mental and physical adjustments to bowl 10 overs. I know my limitations.’’
